Descriptions

University of Applied Sciences Master’s programmes are professionally-oriented Master’s-level higher education degrees. The UAS Master’s curriculum is based on both the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The learning outcomes of the UAS Master’s programme correspond to level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework.

The degree of Community Educator (Master of Humanities) is 90 credits. The aim of the education is to prepare professionals to work in demanding leadership and development roles in different types of communities. The qualification deepens the knowledge of community and of promoting inclusion. The education emphasises an exploratory and developmental approach to the challenges of working life and communities.
The Government Decree on Universities of Applied Sciences 1129/2014band particularly Section 5 of the Decree, provides a framework of objectives for programmes leading to UAS Master’s degree.

The goal of programmes leading to a UAS Master’s degree is that graduates will possess:

1) extensive and in-depth knowledge and the theoretical knowledge and skills needed to develop the world of work in demanding expert and management tasks;
2) an in-depth understanding of the profession itself, its position in the world of work and its significance in society, and the knowledge and skills to follow and differentiate developments in research knowledge and professional practice in the field;
3) the skills and knowledge for lifelong learning and for continuously developing the graduate’s own professional skills;
4) good communicative and language proficiency for duties in the graduate’s own field, and for international operations and collaboration.
The title of the graduate is Master of Humanities.

The education program includes common advanced professional studies, specialist advanced professional studies, optional studies and thesis studies.
Common advanced studies are worth 15 credit points. In the specialist advanced professional studies the student chooses either advanced professional studies in NGO Work, Youth Work, Workplace Community Development or Experiential and Adventure Education. Each of them is worth 15 credit points. In the optional studies the student can choose six courses worth 5 credit points (altogether 30 credit points). Two of these can be selected from other higher education institutions’ course offerings that correspond to level 7. Thesis studies are worth 30 credit points.

Our UAS Master’s programmes aim to integrate with the world of work and promote the development of working life. Studies are carried online and they can include 1) real-time online teaching, 2) independent online learning or 3) group-based work to ensure opportunities for peer learning.

In the optional studies student can choose courses from other higher education institutions’ course offerings. Students can also incorporate studies undertaken at other higher education institutions into their personal study plan.
