Objective
Students will be able to:
• reflect on their language output especially at the socio-linguistic and pragmatic levels and develop their language and cultural awareness and language skills
• adapt their working languages and methods to different situations
• demonstrate a command of the specialist terminology of a chosen field and adapt their language/method to a chosen specialist context
• use appropriate language/methods and interpreting methods in different types of interpreting assignments
• critically evaluate their interpreting output and use their observations in the development of their interpreting competencies
Content
The specialist terminology and context covered during this course can be related to, for example: church and religion, young people’s language, seminars and academic signing, sports or theatre. The course includes a number of interpreting exercises and analysis of the working languages and methods. Interpreting output produced in the exercises is assessed from the point of view of e.g. accuracy of rendition, appropriateness, intelligibility and grammatical accuracy. Students develop competencies in the variation of working languages/methods. The mode of study is agreed with the course lecturer/coach on an individual basis.
