Objective

Students
- can describe their studies and their professional field in English
- can actively use profession-related terminology both orally and in writing
- can communicate in multidisciplinary workplace communities in English both orally and in writing
- can perform in profession-related international situations in English
- understand the differences of formal and informal language and based on this, are able use context-appropriate language

Qualifications

Opiskelijalla tulee olla riittävät taustatiedot englannin kielestä (peruskoulu/lukio). Opiskelijan tulee olla suorittanut Humakin englannin lähtötasotesti ja, mikäli testin tulos näin osoittaa, suorittanut englannin kielen valmentavat opinnot 3 op.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Arvosana 1: vastaa eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen taitotasoa B1 /
opiskelija osoittaa hallitsevansa vähintään 48 % asetetuista tavoitteista

Arvosana 2: vastaa eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen taitotasoa B1 - B2 /
opiskelija osoittaa hallitsevansa vähintään 58 % asetetuista tavoitteista

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Arvosana 3: vastaa eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen taitotasoa B2 /
opiskelija osoittaa hallitsevansa vähintään 68 % asetetuista tavoitteista

Arvosana 4: vastaa eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen taitotasoa B2 - C1 /
opiskelija osoittaa hallitsevansa vähintään 78 % asetetuista tavoitteista

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Arvosana 5: vastaa eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen taitotasoa C1 - C2 /
opiskelija osoittaa hallitsevansa vähintään 90 % asetetuista tavoitteista

opiskelija ei hallitse opintojakson vähimmäistavoitteita

Level: Explorer, B2 (CEFR)

The first part of the course (2 ECTS) is assessed Approved / Not completed. In the end of the latter part of the course, both the oral and the written language proficiency are assessed numerically (0–5). The assessment is based on the Common European Framework of Reference and on the recommendations given for teaching languages and communication at universities of applied sciences in Finland.

For their proficiency in English, students receive an additional skill level marking in their degree certificate as stipulated in the Universities of Applied Sciences Act. This marking is based on the results of the final exams.
