Objective

Students
- understand the requirements of different discourses for interpreting (monologue, dialogue)
- can prepare for different interpreting assignments
- know the factors of workplace well-being and can take care of their own workplace well-being.
- can utilize different interpreting methods and strategies to meet the customer’s goals
- can take care of the availability, functionality and up-datedness of the equipment needed for interpreting
- can inform interest organizations and people close to the customer about interpreting services and give an expert briefing about their work description
- can apply research related to interpreting, multimodal interaction and AAC in their professional development
- can realistically reflect on their attitudes and actions as interpreters and set themselves goals to develop their interpreting competence.

- Customer orientation
- Community interpreting (health care)
- The requirements of classroom interpreting (special education institutions)
- Familiarizing with the criteria of demanding interpreting assignments (theatre, spiritual events)
- Remote interpreting
- Team interpreting techniques
- When preparing for interpreting assignments, students must be able to consider the customers’ needs and wishes they may have for small-scale assistance during the interaction situation
- During the practical training period, students develop their competence in AAC interpreting where Easy Language is emphasized
- The practical training period must be carried out in an authentic environment with different customer groups
- During the practical training, students collect information about the current requirements set for interpreters by the world of work
- The course includes the final exam in AAC interpreting 1 ECTS

Qualifications

The course lays a foundation for and is thus recommended to be completed prior to the specialization studies module Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) (25 ECTS) (unless the student has similar competence). Also, the following courses should be completed prior to the practical training period:
- TUPE1 Basics of interpreting services
- TUPE2 Theories and background of interpreting?
- TUPU1 Basics of AAC interpreting 5 ECTS?
- TUPU2 Interpreter in interaction 5 ECTS?
- Interpreter’s work environments 2 ECTS (Part of the course TUPU3 AAC interpreting: Practical training)?

The practical training must be carried out along with an AAC interpreter and/or in different environments, such as educational institutions, theatre, hospitals, with immigrants, etc.?
