Descriptions

Humak’s curricula are competency-based and they consist of study modules. The degree programme in cultural management (bachelor' degree, 240 ECTS) consist of common studies (75 ECT), basic studies in cultural management (130 ECTS), specialization studies in cultural management (15 ECTS), and optional studies (20 ECTS). The studies include 50 ECTS-credits of practical training and a 15-ECTS bachelor’s thesis. For their specialization studies, students choose either content management, service management and intermediation, or experience and event management.

Cultural Management (bachelor's degree) graduates are professionals in the field of cultural management who are capable of design, production and expert tasks. They have the specialist skills to understand culture and the arts, to manage and direct productions and to be entrepreneurs in the creative industries.

Development

The curriculum has been developed together with presentatives of the world of work, teaching staff and students to better correspond to future competence needs. Conceptualizing learning environments and learning communities has been part of the curriculum development work. Students can, during their studies, participate in courses (i.e. teaching) in five types of learning environments and learning communities. These are: online, campus, international studies, research, development and innovation project (RDI), and the world of work.

Curriculum work has focused on developing student coaching and guidance. During their studies, each student has the possibility of receiving personal coaching and building their independent, student-driven learning path flexibly.

Further information

At Humak, teaching is based on coaching pedagogy. The key elements of coaching pedagogy are learning based on the world of work, collaborative learning, and interaction. Students' learning is built on practical experiences, such as real-life work projects and work placements.

As the studies proceed, coaching pedagogy challenges students to set themselves increasingly demanding tasks, and, simultaneously, the course objectives are deepened. On the basis of depth and difficulty, the courses are classified under three levels: learner, explorer, and innovator. In the beginning of the studies, students are learners. They then proceed to explorers and integrators, before they, in the final phase of the studies, become research-oriented and participative innovators.

Objective

The competency objectives of common studies in Humak's degree programmes are based on competences common to all UAS degree programmes. These are learning to learn, navigating the world of work, ethics, internationality and multiculturalism and proactive development. These competences lay the foundation for navigating the world of work, for collaboration, and for becoming an expert.

The objectives of the degree programme in cultural managment relate to the competences of the degree programme. These are: knowledge of the work environments, production process management, business skills, development competence, and interaction skills. In addition to these, the degree programme focuses strongly on promoting international competence.
