Objective

Students will
- be able to critically examine the political and linguistic status of International Sign.
- be familiar with linguistic and cultural differences between sign languages around the world.
- be able to communicate in international contexts using the signs, structures and strategies designated for use at international deaf events.
- be able to apply and develop their language proficiency in multilingual and multicultural environments.
- be able to use international sign, gestures, visual signs and pantomime to enrich their message
- understand texts in International Sign on familiar topics

- the definition and status of International Sign
- common internationally agreed signs
- gestures and constructed action
- becoming familiar with different sign languages
- making use of multimodal resources
- unpacking the meaning of concepts
- cross-cultural differences
- Deaf communities around the world, transnationality
- operating in a multilingual and multicultural environment

Teaching methods

1 op online teaching (10 x 2 h) and 4 op independent studying
Language of the course is mainly International Sign.
Independent assignments:
1. Task pack in Hoodle
2. International signing exam and self assessment
