Objective
Students will be able to:
• describe minority language communities, their operating environments and organisation globally
• identify international texts governing the status of deaf people and describe the relations of the deaf community and the international disability rights movement
• describe the current status and operating environments of (disabled) migrants in Finland
• compare and describe the organisation of interpreters and the current objectives and operating environments of interpreter associations across the globe
• operate in a professional and confident manner in multilingual and multicultural settings and participate in international networks
• follow and analyse international events, debates and developments in their chosen field.
Content
Students can choose weightings according to their competence profile (e.g. Interpreting for deafblind or speech-impaired customers). The aim is for students to be able to recognise impacts and opportunities arising from international developments in the field of interpreting.

Teaching methods
We will be meeting 12 times (90–120 min) between September and December. The nature of the sessions is dialogical, we will use flipped classroom pedagogy (meaning pre-session tasks and then discussion during session). Attendance is mandatory for 75% of the sessions, but do not miss our concluding seminar in December! All sessions are hybrid or online, so you can participate from anywhere. We will be using individual and group activities during the course.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Completing the course requires 75% attendance (or submitting compensatory assignments for absence) and completion of all assignments as instructed.
