Location and time

The course will be held both in Hoodle (Humak's Moodle learning environment) and in online webinars (the Zoom link for the webinars will be provided approximately 2 weeks before the first webinar on the course's Hoodle page

Materials

The details will be finalized once the implementation plan for the course is completed. More detailed information about the materials will be provided in the course's Hoodle environment.

Teaching methods

The course utilizes the following teaching methods: collaborative learning, peer learning, educational discussion, problem-based learning, case-based learning, and reflective moments in small groups.

Students will study through independent work, in small groups, and in interactive webinars.

Students are expected to participate in the webinars. The lecture parts of the webinars will be recorded.

Exam schedules

Exams for the course can be attempted up to three times during their validity period. Three attempts are equivalent to one regular attempt and two retakes, meaning retake opportunities are included in the course. There is no need to inform the supervising lecturer separately about utilizing retake opportunities.

Student workload

The course is worth 5 ECTS, which corresponds to 135 hours of student work.

Satisfactory (1)
The student identifies the development needs of the working life and their own field, but only superficially. Their ability to plan and manage research-based development processes is incomplete, and they rarely utilize appropriate approaches. They utilize the knowledge base inadequately. Critical examination of
development work and adopting ethically sustainable practices in research-based development activities still require improvement from the student. The student's competence in carrying out the thesis work required by the University of Applied Sciences is inadequate.

Satisfactory (2)
The student identifies the development needs of the working life and their own field at a general level and is capable of planning research-based development processes, but the approaches are incomplete. The
utilization and evaluation of the knowledge base are at a basic level. Critical examination of development work and ethical considerations require further depth. The student has a basic level of competence in carrying out the thesis work required by the University of Applied Sciences.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3)
The student is able to identify and analyze the development needs of the working life and their own field reasonably well. They plan research-based development processes using appropriate approaches. The utilization of the knowledge base is quite skillful, and the student critically examines sources, materials, and
their own choices. They act in an ethically sustainable manner and understand the principles of thesis writing in the University of Applied Sciences.

Good (4)
The student comprehensively identifies the development needs of the working life and their own field. They plan research-based development processes with considerable skill, utilizing diverse approaches. The utilization of the knowledge base is profound and versatile. The student critically evaluates sources,
materials, and their own choices and acts in an ethically sustainable manner in research-based development activities. They have a good understanding of thesis writing in the University of Applied Sciences.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5)
The student demonstrates an outstanding ability to identify the development needs of the working life and their own field. They plan research-based development processes admirably, utilizing innovative and
appropriate approaches. The utilization of the knowledge base is extremely skillful, and the student applies knowledge insightfully and critically. They critically and deeply evaluate sources, materials, and their own
research choices. The student exemplifies exemplary ethical behaviour in all phases of research-based development activities and has excellent capabilities to produce a thesis at the University of Applied Sciences.

Inadequate (0)
The student has not submitted all assignments, has not followed the instructions, or the content of the assignments has not been sufficient to achieve the lowest passing grade.
