Students

Content
Students practise their pedagogical and leadership skills in different communities and organizations within their field of interest. Students learn to promote physical, social and psychological safety through different activities with different target groups.
Teaching methods
Content
The course is a basic practical training period of the second level. The practical training period is carried out as a work placement within the field offering the possibilities to observe and train in practise goal oriented educational and reflective methods. The practical training period includes drafting a work placement contract, familiarizing with the workplace, practical training according to the goals and tasks set in the contract, a report and feedback from the supervisor.
Applying adventure and outdoor educator competences
Safety skills
Get familiar and follow the safety procedures, documents and follow the given safety instructions.
Observe the management of mental, social and physical safety
Maintains the safe operating environment by using situational awareness and pre planned methods to support mental, social and physical safety
Technical skills
Get familiar with the PT placement activities including logistics and maintenanance
Improve the technical adventure skill level to be used as a method to reach the goal oriented educational goals
Prepares the participants to set them for success to meet the requirements of the activities and circumstances
Can teach and act as an example to improve the participants technical skills
Social skills
Gains trust to be able to work efficiently with staff members and PT placement co- organizations
Improves personal various pedagogical styles how to lead groups
Gains more challenging task towards the end of PT
Recognices the learning process and acts accordingly for the individuals and groups. They support the process with goal oriented actions and observe the result of their actions.
Environmental skills
Is able to adapt the environmental challenges with group skill level
Chooses the environment in order to maintain safety and reach the educational goals
Works on own iniative to support sustainable development and acts as an example to be followed
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The course is assessed incomplete (HYL)/complete (HYV).
The assessment is based on completing successfully all the tasks of the the course during the duration of the course. PT lecturer will assess the tasks and record the results in the student register.
To complete the course student must complete following tasks:
Work at the PT placement: approved and confirmed on the PT evaluation form
PT report: meets the minimum requirements of the PT report
Seminar presentation: seminar presentation and full participation on minimum 1 seminar day during each PT course
The above mentioned tasks have to be returned and approved during the duration of the course
No separate feedback will be given for tasks that are assessed automatically . Students will get feedback from their PT supervisors, during the possible PT meeting, seminar and from the PT evaluation form.
